Mar 28, 2010 · I am rebuilding a 8n ford & plan on replacing the head bolts. Can I use grade 5,or grade 8 bolts or do I need to buy actual head bolts. The old bolts have 4 marks on them so I think that makes them a grade 6. Thanks in advance Dave
Applications - ASTM A193 Powered by Portland BoltA193 bolt grade selection will be dependent upon the valves base material, the pressure class of the valve, and service conditions. For plain carbon steel valves, Grade B7 bolts are typically used. When high temperatures dictate the use of Cr/Mo valves, Grade B16 bolts are the norm. A193 Grades B8 and B8M are used with stainless steel valves.
Grade 2 The grade 2 bolts are most commonly manufactured from low or medium carbon steel. Bolts of this grade do not have any radial lines. The bolts of this grade with a nominal size range from 1/4 to 3/4 have a minimum tensile strength of about 57000 psi and
Bolt GradesFirst, you need to be able to identify bolts by the different grades when you go to the local hardware store. Grade 5 bolts have 3 marks or lines on the head that are in the shape of a Y. Grade 8 bolts have 6 marks on the head. Second, the different grades have a meaning to them. It tells you how strong the fastener is. There are
Bolt grade for blade? LawnSite - Lawn Care Mar 09, 2001 · Grade 8 is not necessarily better than a grade 5 in all applications. That is why I am asking which grade is the best for LAWNMOWERS. MowingMachine or anyone else who knows, it is for a Lazer HP not quite sure yet what the bolt size is, so just name the best grade for all the possible size bolts for a mower blade bolt Thanx!!!

Grade of bolts used in exhaust manifold bolts Oct 23, 2010 · A few weeks later 2 of the bolts had broke, when I asked an engineer why this would happen he mentioned the bolts elasticity and that a softer metal would compensate for the vibration he also mentioned that extra washers or a spacer may have compensated but to just go back to grade 3) Exhaust manifold bolts also like to unwind even when torqued
Its often much safer to use a Grade 5 bolt which will bend, thus providing a warning, rather than a Grade 8 bolt breaking without warning. As long as the Grade 5 bolthas been sized large enough to take the expected load, we dont want to trade toughness (resistance to stress cycles) for the ultimate tensile strength of the Grade 8 fastener.

Nov 22, 2013 · Stainless steel bolts are usually made with a steel alloy that contains up to 19 percent chromium and 13 percent nickel. Standard thread stainless bolts are rated as 18-8 and have roughly the same yield and tensile strength as a Grade 5 bolt. Metric stainless bolts are rated as A-2 and are rated slightly under the standard metric 8.8 ratings.
Understanding Fastener Grades and Classes - Fastener MartStrength exceeds Grade 2. ASTM A325:Bolts meet ASTM A325 Type 1 standards for structural steel joints. Grade B Nuts:Strength is similar to Grade 5. Grade B7 Threaded Stud & Rod:Same as Grade 5. Use with Grade 2H and Grade C nuts. Grade C Nuts:Strength exceeds Grade 5. Use with heat-treated medium-strength steel fasteners like ASTM A325
Understanding the Grading of High Tensile BoltsWhen a bolt has a grading of S, it means that it can withstand a stress of 45 to 49.9 metric tonnes per 6.45 cm². This grading, which is typically stamped on the head of the bolt, has the same tensile strength as a grade 8.8 bolt. Bolts labelled with the grade 8.8 or S are solid, heavy duty bolts that can be used for a variety of tasks.
Oct 02, 2009 · Three dashs is a grade 5, not the strongest bolt possible, but a hardened bolt nonetheless. Replace your bolts with grade 5 (three marks on the head), or grade 8 (six marks on the heads). Stainless would be a waste of money. Incidentaly, when I have rebuilt old stoves in the past, I used "stove bolts", which are grade 2 (dead soft steel).
what grade bolts for lifting motors Page 2 NastyZ28Oct 01, 2006 · The pull-out resistance of 5/16-18 bolts is over 5000# per bolt in cast aluminum. The 75% yield strength of grade 5 5/16-18 bolt is about 3600# per bolt. If you use 4 bolts the yield strength would be somewhere over 12,000#. There are lots of weaker links in the lifting system.WHAT GRADE OF BOLT SHOULD I USE? Marks BoltsMay 26, 2016 · In the metric world (a.k.a. ISO) the most common bolts are marked with an 8.8, 10.9, or 12.9. If there are no head markings at all, they are most likely comparable to the SAE grade 2. The 8.8 is comparable to the SAE Grade 5. The 10.9 is comparable to the SAE Grade 8. The 12.9 is comparable to the SAE allen head.
